Are you using Trello in employer branding yet?
If you have worked with us, you are already familiar with using Trello Board in the content creation process for employer branding.
Trello is a versatile and user-friendly project management tool that empowers teams and individuals to organise tasks, projects, and ideas on a digital board. We have been using Trello for years and years, and we also create our client content plans on Trello.
Imagine a board filled with columns of sticky notes, each representing a content idea or a task, and you’ve got a basic visual of what Trello offers for employer branding. These boards are highly customisable, allowing you to create lists (columns) to track the progress of tasks from ”To Do,” through ”Doing,” to ”Done,” or any other workflow that suits your project’s needs.
When using Trello in employer branding, we create one Trello Board that works as a content ideas backlog, a collaborative content creation process board and a content publication board.
Each sticky note, or ”card” in Trello terms, can hold a wealth of information: descriptions, checklists, attachments, due dates, comments, and even links to other cards or boards. This makes Trello an excellent tool for collaborative efforts, as it’s designed to keep everyone on the same page—literally and figuratively. Trello’s simplicity and flexibility make it a real go-to tool for managing employer brand marketing, content creation and recruitment campaigns.
A Simple Content Ideation and Content Creation Process when Using Trello in Employer Branding
Start with opening either an existing Trello Board created for employer branding or a new one. Using the basic Trello is free, by the way, and takes you a long way.
If you are new to Trello, check this page first to learn how to get started. It’s simple and intuitive, though, to just open a new board and start by creating columns. You can change the names for the columns and reorganise their order anytime you want.
A simple content creation and ideation process on your new Trello Board
Split the employer brand content creation into the following steps and schedule them on another day if you want:
Content ideation directly on a Trello Board (15 minutes)
- Name one column as ’CONTENT IDEAS’. If you have specific key themes or talking points, create a column for each theme separately and name them as ’CONTENT IDEAS – [THEME]’.
- Next, document each new content idea as its own card on the specific column based on the theme of the idea. This is its own process.
- Start with a very simple ideation process with only the topic. Write the topic idea as the headline for the card and then move to the next idea on a new card.
- Now that you have created a backlog for content ideas, you can easily jump over on a desktop (or a mobile app that is available, too) whenever you have a content idea matching your employer branding theme.
- Make it a habit to recognise content ideas around you and record them as new cards on your Trello Board.
Content ideas enhancement (1 h)
- Schedule regular content idea enhancement hours on your calendar. Like during the ideation part, collaborating with others is also fun. Invite your employer branding buddies on your Trello Board to use it collaboratively.
- Select 3-5 ideas and then continue with one at a time.
- Consider whether the idea is best delivered as a longer blog post or a shorter social media post.
- Next, plan the idea further based on who should care about it.
- Who is this content targeted to?
- What makes this idea relevant to them?
- What do they want to hear about this idea?
- Then, consider what format this idea could work best, depending on which social media you use. This impacts how the depth and length of the content needed.
- Continue ideating the content. For this, using AI like ChatGPT can be valuable.
- Document the enhanced idea on the relevant card. Create a new column and name it ’WORKING ON’. Move those ideas to the column that you want to proceed with next. If there is more than one working on the ideas, use the ’Members’ option inside the card to tag the person working on the idea. This can be you or someone else on this board you delegate this task to.
Working on a content idea on the Trello Board (1h)
Here at Emine, we like to separate this step as its own activity and try to maximise the content generation time to as many ideas as possible when you are in the flow.
- If your content idea requires data collection, such as an interview, plan it forward, write the interview questions on the card and plan the interview task forward.
- Content ideas based on existing content you can repurpose directly on the card. Copywrite the caption for your post, and add any links and hashtags on the card. We recommend doing this phase on Trello so you can reuse or repurpose the same content later. It makes content marketing for employer branding so much more effective when you have all your posts archived in one place.
- This step is followed by creating visual content such as images or videos. You can schedule that as a separate task and create the visuals for multiple content at the same time. Again, enjoying the flow.
What’s next?
Your content is ready for publication!
Create a new column and name it ’READY TO PUBLISH’. Move all the cards with content that is ready to be copy pasted as a social media post.
When you publish, mark the publication date on each card and move them to a new column. You name this one ’PUBLISHED’.
The ’Published’ column is your post archive where you have all your posts with the captions, images, links, hashtags, and all saved for a rainy day when you don’t have time to create new posts but you have time to copy the card, move it to the top of the column and republish it.
Rinse and repeat this process weekly, monthly and annually. You shall build a wonderful content library for your organisation!
